Jones was a no-show at the facility on Monday, but OTAs don't start until Tuesday. He'll be in attendance after his agent and GM Jeff Ireland spoke "several times" late into Monday evening. Ireland reportedly promised "eventual" contract talks, but it's unclear what "eventual" means. If talks don't start prior to training camp, Jones loses any leverage he had. The 25-year-old has one year left on his rookie deal at $1.323 million.

Tony Romo undergoes minor back surgery
Tony Romo | DAL
(May 21, 2013 8:11 AM EDT)
Tony Romo will miss OTAs after undergoing surgery to have a cyst removed from his back last month.
Romo had the procedure done just before the draft and only needs a few more weeks to recover. The 33-year-old is optimistic that he'll be cleared in time for mandatory minicamp from June 12-14, but he'll certainly be all systems go for training camp. Romo says he could play if the season started today.

Report: Gronkowski's arm infection is gone
Rob Gronkowski | NE
(May 20, 2013 5:31 PM EDT)
Profootballtalk.com reports the lingering infection has cleared from Rob Gronkowski's arm, and his new plate was installed during Monday's surgery.
Gronkowski emerged from surgery Monday afternoon. The new plate will continue to hold together the fracture in his left forearm, which was surgically repaired four times because of complications due to the infection. Gronkowski is now expected to undergo back surgery in 3-4 weeks, the recovery timetable for which will last roughly ten weeks. He's still got a good chance to get in some late-training camp time, and be all systems go for Week 1 at Buffalo.

Chiefs tinkering with Pistol Spread formation
Alex Smith | KC
(May 20, 2013 3:03 PM EDT)
The Chiefs have been tinkering with Pistol Spread formations at OTAs.
The club hired ex-Nevada coach Chris Ault -- Godfather of the Pistol -- as a consultant this offseason. Alex Smith has some history with Pistol formations from his time with Urban Meyer at Utah. The added dimension could make Andy Reid's offense more "multiple," but is unlikely to have a major impact on Smith's 2013 fantasy outlook. He will be a low-end, low-ceiling QB2.

Knowshon Moreno not cleared for Broncos OTAs
Knowshon Moreno | DEN
(May 20, 2013 2:28 PM EDT)
Updating a previous item, Knowshon Moreno (knee surgery) has not been medically cleared for Broncos OTAs.
With Willis McGahee a no-show and Moreno still hobbled, second-round pick Montee Ball will soak up first-team reps during the Organized Team Activities. Moreno is at Denver's Dove Valley facility, but he's not practicing. He's likely to be healed by training camp, but projects as a third-stringer this year.

Report: NFL likely to push the draft into May
Roger Goodell | FA
(May 20, 2013 2:10 PM EDT)
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the NFL is on the verge of brokering a deal with the NFLPA that would push the annual NFL draft into May.
Per Schefter, the league will also move the new league year (free agency and trades) to ahead of the Combine, which is typically held in late February. The NFL draft is typically held around the last weekend in April. The changes, which have been in the works for awhile, are designed to "keep fans' attention over a longer period" and "use the events to produce additional revenue."

Josh Gordon headed for a 'breakout season'?
Josh Gordon | CLE
(May 20, 2013 1:50 PM EDT)
The Cleveland Plain Dealer suggests second-year WR Josh Gordon is headed for a "breakout season" in the Browns' new offense.
Reporter Terry Pluto observed at OTAs that the game comes "outrageously easy" to Gordon, who "glides down the field" and will be the featured target in Rob Chudzinski's vertical passing attack. Gordon was one of the league's most dangerous vertical receivers as a rookie. In our 2012 tape study, we observed Gordon to have movement skills not dissimilar from Andre Johnson.

Schiano reiterates competition for Freeman
Josh Freeman | TB
(May 20, 2013 12:17 PM EDT)
Bucs coach Greg Schiano reiterated Monday that Josh Freeman will face competition from third-rounder Mike Glennon.
Schiano and GM Mark Dominik were attempting to claim that they haven't lost faith in Freeman, but Schiano couldn't resist putting Freeman's feet to the fire once more. "I try to tell (the media) the truth that I believe in Josh Freeman and he's our starting quarterback," Schiano said. "But I believe in competition." In the NFL, anything less than an unequivocal endorsement should be construed as a lack of faith. The Bucs are going to make Freeman work for his job, plain and simple.

McGahee a no-show as Broncos open OTAs
Willis McGahee | DEN
(May 20, 2013 12:00 PM EDT)
Willis McGahee was a no-show for the start of Broncos OTAs Monday.
It's notable since McGahee is healthy after last year's torn MCL and broken leg. He was the lone non-injured Broncos veteran to skip out. McGahee's absence from the "voluntary" sessions could suggest he doesn't view himself as long for Denver. McGahee's advancing age and $2.5 million salary make him a strong release candidate after the Broncos drafted Montee Ball. For what it's worth, McGahee's agent insists there's "no message" behind his absence.

Megatron played through broken fingers in '12
Calvin Johnson | DET
(May 20, 2013 10:43 AM EDT)
Calvin Johnson confirms he played through broken fingers last season, and has been "trying to straighten them out."
There were rumors that Johnson played through as many as three broken fingers, though he hasn't confirmed that number. He will not undergo surgery. Coupled with his knee issues, the disclosure makes Johnson's record-breaking 1,964-yard season all the more mind-boggling. Still four months shy of his 28th birthday, Megatron is smack dab in the middle of his prime. He's without peer at wide receiver.
