Jered Weaver | ANA
(May 22, 2013 5:23 PM EDT)
Jered Weaver (elbow) threw 5 2/3 innings Wednesday afternoon in a start at extended spring training.
Weaver allowed just one run and did not walk a batter while striking out nine. He threw 75 pitches, 62 of which were strikes. The right-hander is likely to rejoin the Angels' starting rotation early next week after missing the past month-plus with a fractured left elbow.

Schoop diagnosed with stress fracture in back
Jonathan Schoop | BAL
(May 22, 2013 5:05 PM EDT)
Jonathan Schoop has been diagnosed with a stress fracture in his back and will need 6-8 weeks of rest.
Schoop will meet with another doctor later this week for a second opinion, but it seems doubtful that the diagnosis will change. The 21-year-old infielder was batting .268/.331/.386 with three homers and 18 RBI in 34 games at the Triple-A level. It is no longer a certainty that he will reach the major leagues this season.

Dominguez (quad) out of Astros' lineup Wed.
Matt Dominguez | HOU
(May 22, 2013 4:52 PM EDT)
Matt Dominguez is out of the Astros' lineup on Wednesday night because of left quad tightness.
The Astros have a scheduled team off day on Thursday, so giving Dominguez the night off Wednesday affords him two full days of rest. The 23-year-old third baseman is batting just .245/.275/.371 in 43 games this season but he's one of the best defensive infielders in MLB.

Ryan Madson has experienced yet another setback in his recovery from Tommy John elbow surgery.
Madson felt renewed soreness in his right arm while trying to throw this week and has been shut down indefinitely. There is no longer a timetable for his return and he can be dropped in most fantasy formats at this point. Ernesto Frieri is the Angels' ninth-inning man.

Twins demote RHP Vance Worley to Triple-A
Vance Worley | MIN
(May 22, 2013 3:32 PM EDT)
Twins optioned RHP Vance Worley to Triple-A Rochester.
The Twins acquired Worley from the Phillies over the winter in hopes that he would be a productive member of the starting rotation, but he has been anything but. After being knocked around for eight runs in 3 2/3 innings Wednesday by the Braves, the 25-year-old has an ugly 7.21 ERA across 10 starts. If Worley can turn things around in the minors, he figures to get another chance soon. No word yet on whether Kyle Gibson will be the choice to replace him, but don't count it out.

Shane Victorino | BOS
(May 22, 2013 2:52 PM EDT)
Red Sox manager John Farrell said on WEEI in Boston that Shane Victorino (hamstring) is out of the lineup again Wednesday.
Victorino hasn't played since he left Monday's game with left hamstring tightness, but Farrell said he is "moving in the right direction." Consider him day-to-day.

Rafael Betancourt (groin) won't need DL stint
Rafael Betancourt | COL
(May 22, 2013 2:18 PM EDT)
Rafael Betancourt (groin) will not require a trip to the disabled list.
Betancourt left Tuesday's game with a tight right groin, but it's merely some scar tissue from a previous injury. He was given anti-inflammatory medication and could be back in there as soon as Friday. Rex Brothers and Wilton Lopez could be in the mix for save chances until he's ready to go, but it doesn't sound like he'll have a lengthy absence.
