Goggin was 4-over on his front nine at Merion, but then gathered himself to play the final nine in even par. His only birdie of the day came at the par-4 16th and was followed by his third bogey on the very next hole. The Web.com Tour regular has plenty to play for the next few days.

Mahan positioned for first major win @ Merion
Hunter Mahan | PGA
(June 15, 2013 8:13 AM EDT)
Hunter Mahan polished off a 1-under-par 69 in the second round of the U.S. Open on Saturday morning that included a birdie on the 10th hole to end the round.
Mahan began his round on the par-4 11th and it was pars all the way until the difficult par-4 18th. He would bogey the 18th, then sandwich birdies at one and two between a bogey at the third. His third, and final, birdie of the round came at the par-4 12th and puts him two off the lead at 1-over 141. He'll try and chase down his first major title at Merion over the weekend, trailing by two to Phil Mickelson and Billy Horschel.
Schwartzel birdies 18th; 1-over at U.S. Open
Charl Schwartzel | PGA
(June 15, 2013 7:56 AM EDT)
Charl Schwartzel turned in a 1-over-par 71 in the second round of the U.S. Open and sits at 1-over 141 for the tournament.
Schwartzel had a little work to do on Saturday morning to complete his second round and answered the bell with a par at the par-3 17th and a rare birdie at the par-4 18th. In all, his second lap around Merion included five birdies, four bogeys and a messy double bogey on the par-4 first when he short-sided himself in a bunker right out of the gate. He only trails Phil Mickelson and Billy Horschel by two strokes, so expect the 2011 Masters champion to be a factor down the stretch.

Darkness strands 68 in U.S. Open second round
Tim Clark | PGA
(June 14, 2013 9:17 PM EDT)
The second round of the 113th U.S. Open was suspended due to darkness at 8:27 p.m. ET.
Unlike Thursday's disjointed agenda, there were no delays today, but 68 golfers could not conclude their second round. This includes Tim Clark, who is the only golfer with one hole to complete. He's 8-over-par on his round and the tournament. At the moment, that would allow him to survive the cut on the number. The second round is scheduled to restart at 7:15 a.m.

Justin Rose one off 36-hole clubhouse lead
Justin Rose | PGA
(June 14, 2013 9:02 PM EDT)
Justin Rose is even-par 71-69=140 through 36 holes of the U.S. Open, one stroke adrift of the clubhouse lead after two rounds.
Rose's tee-to-green game is setting the table for a potential run at Merion this week. He's split 20 (of 28) fairways and landed 28 greens in regulation, yet has taken a tidy 62 putts. Four birdies on Thursday were wiped off by five bogeys, but he traded three birdies with two bogeys today to remain relevant.

Steve Stricker carded a 1-under-par 69 in his second round of the U.S. Open to reach the halfway point in even-par 140.
Stricker erased two bogeys with three birdies at Merion today to finish one strokes off the pace of the 36-hole clubhouse co-leaders. For the week thus far, he's split 20 (of 28) fairways, hit 28 greens in regulation and taken 62 putts.
Mickelson shares lead with a walk-off birdie
Phil Mickelson | PGA
(June 14, 2013 8:38 PM EDT)
Overnight leader Phil Mickelson chased his opening 67 at the U.S. Open with a 2-over-par 72 to reach the midpoint in 1-under 139, good for a share of the 36-hole clubhouse lead.
Mickelson grinded through 17 holes in birdie-free 3-over before the horn sounded to signal the end of play for the day due to darkness. Allowed to complete his hole and with his ball resting on the edge of the green at the par-4 18th, the left-hander rolled it in for the noisy birdie. The five-time runner-up in this tournament has enjoyed quite a week. He'll enter the weekend with another terrific opportunity to convert on what would be his first victory in this major.
