Howard helps Red Wings capture Game 2
Jimmy Howard | DET
(May 18, 2013 3:38 PM EDT)
Jimmy Howard turned aside 19 of 20 shots in a 4-1 victory against Chicago.
That's quite a change of pace for Howard after facing 41 shots in Game 1. The Red Wings have managed to split the first two games in Chicago and rob the Blackhawks of their home ice advantage in this series. The Blackhawks were regarded as the overwhelming favorites going into the second round, but Detroit shouldn't be ignored. They might not look as good as the Red Wings' teams of old, but they certainly have enough talent to at least compete with anyone in the league.
Corey Crawford falls short against Red Wings
Corey Crawford | CHI
(May 18, 2013 3:38 PM EDT)
Corey Crawford kicked out 26 of 30 shots in a 4-1 defeat on Saturday.
This is just the second time Crawford has allowed three or more goals in a 2013 playoff contest and, not coincidentally, the second time Chicago has been defeated in their postseason run. The pressure is now on Chicago to capture at least one of the next two games in Detroit to reclaim their home ice advantage in the second round. It's worth noting that the Blackhawks actually had a better road record in the regular season (18-4-2) than the Red Wings had home record (13-7-4).
Damien Brunner scores opener in Detroit win
Damien Brunner | DET
(May 18, 2013 3:37 PM EDT)
Damien Brunner scored his fourth goal of the playoffs in Detroit's 4-1 win Saturday.
Brunner slowed down as the 2013 season went on, but he's been a pleasant surprise for the Red Wings in the playoffs. Brendan Smith, Johan Franzen, and Valtteri Filppula netted the Red Wings' other three goals. Henrik Zetterberg recorded his sixth and seventh assists of the postseason. Jakub Kindl, Daniel Cleary, Joakim Andersson, Jonathan Ericsson, and Niklas Kronwall each registered an assist in Game 2.
Patrick Kane's goal is moot Saturday
Patrick Kane | CHI
(May 18, 2013 3:37 PM EDT)
Patrick Kane scored a goal in Chicago's 4-1 defeat Saturday afternoon.
It was Kane's first goal of the playoffs and it put Chicago up 1-0 in the first period. Unfortunately for the Blackhawks, they were unable to build off of Kane's early efforts. Michal Handzus and Patrick Sharp each registered an assist. Dave Bolland spent a team-high six minutes in the sin bin. Brandon Saad had five shots on goal, but was held off the scoresheet.
Nino Niederreiter leads Swiss past USA
Nino Niederreiter | NYI
(May 18, 2013 3:25 PM EDT)
Nino Niederreiter had a goal and an assist in Switzerland's 3-0 victory over Team USA.
Niederreiter didn't play for the Islanders this season, but he might break out in 2013-14 after getting some seasoning in the AHL. Julian Walker and Reto Suri accounted for Switzerland's other two goals. Reto Berra turned aside 29 shots for the shutout. Team USA will compete against Finland in the Bronze Medal Game while Sweden and Switzerland will battle for the Gold Medal.
Tortorella: Hagelin 'stinks' on power play
Carl Hagelin | NYR
(May 18, 2013 3:05 PM EDT)
Carl Hagelin has only logged 1:51 minutes worth of power-play ice time in the postseason.
That's not likely to change as Rangers coach John Tortorella thinks Hagelin "stinks" with the man advantage. "I don't know why," Tortorella said. "I wish I could put him on the power play, but every time I put him on he stinks."

Marc Staal (eye) doesn't practice Saturday
Marc Staal | NYR
(May 18, 2013 3:00 PM EDT)
Marc Staal (eye) wasn't on the ice with the Rangers on Saturday.
Staal resumed skating on Friday after taking several days off. There's no timetable for his return, but it would be surprising if he plays again in the near future.

Craig Anderson will get the nod Sunday
Craig Anderson | OTT
(May 18, 2013 2:43 PM EDT)
As expected, Craig Anderson will be the Senators' starting goaltender on Sunday.
Anderson was pulled from Game 2 against the Pittsburgh Penguins, but he is still their clear number one goaltender. He has a 2.52 GAA and .931 save percentage in seven postseason starts.

Jason Spezza is expected to return Sunday
Jason Spezza | OTT
(May 18, 2013 2:07 PM EDT)
Jason Spezza (back) is ready to return to the Senators' lineup.
Look for Spezza to play on the top line in Game 3 on Sunday. The Ottawa Senators are down 2-0 in their second-round series against Pittsburgh, but getting Spezza back will be a huge boost. Although the Senators still might not make it past this round, he will help plenty of fantasy owners in playoff pools in the short term.
