David Clarkson | NJ
(May 19, 2013 9:42 AM EDT)
The Maple Leafs could be one of many teams interested in the services of winger David Clarkson this summer.
The unrestricted free agent is coming off his most productive NHL season and offers a combination of skill and toughness all teams covet. The bidding process Clarkson will likely net the forward a very lucrative contract once all is said and done.

JVR was impressive during postseason
James van Riemsdyk | TOR
(May 19, 2013 9:32 AM EDT)
Toronto head coach Randy Carlyle was very impressed with what he saw from winger James van Riemsdyk in the Maple Leafs' playoff series against Boston.
Carlyle referenced the fact that van Riemsdyk was seemingly unwilling to take the punishment required to score goals when he first arrived in Toronto, saying "We told him to camp in front of the net and if he didn’t want to do that, we’d put somebody else there. From that point on, he made the decision that he was going to go to those tough areas and make a living there." The 24-year-old led the Maple Leafs in playoff scoring with seven points, which bodes well for his future with the club.

Tuukka Rask still respecting Rangers
Tuukka Rask | BOS
(May 19, 2013 9:24 AM EDT)
Tuukka Rask and the Bruins are certainly not looking past the New York Rangers despite winning Game One of their playoff series.
"There were a couple of shifts where we couldn’t get the puck out of our end," Rask said. "We couldn’t get a change, and we had to ice it a couple of times. They’re big guys, they’re strong guys. When they play down low, they’re pretty tough to strip of the puck. It’s a big challenge for us." The Bruins definitely appear to have momentum on their side after their stunning Game Seven comeback against Toronto, but shouldn't ignore the fact the Rangers came back from 2-0 series deficit to defeat the Capitals in the first round.

Alexander Edler could be dealt in off-season
Alexander Edler | VAN
(May 19, 2013 9:14 AM EDT)
Alexander Edler may be dealt in the off-season.
If Edler was to be traded, it would have to happen before July 1 as his no-trade contract goes into effect at that time. The Canucks need help up front and have some nice depth on the blueline so it makes sense that Edler could be the odd man out in Vancouver.

Michael Del Zotto appears good for Game 2
Michael Del Zotto | NYR
(May 19, 2013 9:11 AM EDT)
Michael Del Zotto appears fine after being struck in the ear in the first period of Game One against the Bruins Thursday.
Del Zotto left the ice during the game for a few repairs after a shot that was deflected by Patrice Bergeron hit him on the ear. There's no question about his availability for Game Two Sunday.

Keith Ballard likely to be bought out
Keith Ballard | VAN
(May 19, 2013 9:10 AM EDT)
Look for the Vancouver Canucks to buy out the contract of Keith Ballard in the off-season.
The Canucks are up against the cap and should they buy out Ballard and trade Roberto Luongo, they will free up $9.5 million in cap space which will go a long way to signing the seven or eight players they will need next season to fill out their roster. Stay tuned.

Frank Corrado may have bigger role in 2013-14
Frank Corrado | VAN
(May 19, 2013 9:06 AM EDT)
Defenseman Frank Corrado could have a bigger role next season for the Vancouver Canucks.
The rookie played in the OHL this past season before playing six games in the NHL for Vancouver at the end of the regular season and the playoffs as the Canucks were impressed enough with his playoff performance to burn a year of his entry level contract. The Canucks will likely buy out the contract of Keith Ballard, giving Corrado a spot in the lineup if he is able to earn it in training camp. Otherwise, expect him to spend some time in the minors honing his craft.

Jason Spezza excited to return to lineup
Jason Spezza | OTT
(May 19, 2013 9:01 AM EDT)
Senators center Jason Spezza is champing at the bit in anticipation of his return to the lineup against Pittsburgh Sunday.
"I feel good," said Spezza. "One of the worst things you can do as an athlete is watch your teammates battle (and not be able to help). There have been some frustrating times for me in the process. Hockey-wise, it's been one of the longest years in my career, just trying to get back. You can't replicate the ups and downs, the intensity and the excitement. To sit at home and watch playoff games is pretty tough." Spezza only managed to suit up for five regular season contests before he was sidelined by a back injury that eventually required surgery to correct. He has not seen game action since January 27th.
