Herman has NFL-size at 6-foot-4, 320 pounds, but has stubby 32 1/4-inch arms. He managed 36 bench-press reps at the Combine, but is not a high-end athlete, even for a guard. The Giants are undertaking a youth movement along their offensive line, but Herman's best bet is the practice squad.

No. 14 pick Lotulelei signs rookie contract
Star Lotulelei | CAR
(May 22, 2013 4:26 PM EDT)
Panthers agreed to terms with No. 14 overall pick DT Star Lotulelei on a four-year contract.
Bandied about as a potential top-five pick before the draft, Lotulelei tumbled to the Panthers at No. 14, where he fills a massive need. A poor-man's Haloti Ngata, Lotulelei is going to stuff running lanes, but may not rush the quarterback like Ngata has. The Panthers will count on Lotulelei and his 6-foot-2, 311-pound frame to occupy multiple blockers. An absolute workhorse in college — he played nearly every defensive snap as a senior — Lotulelei has the potential to make an impact from day one on an underrated young front seven.
Crabtree (Achilles') underwent surgery Weds.
Michael Crabtree | SF
(May 22, 2013 4:04 PM EDT)
Michael Crabtree underwent surgery on his torn Achilles' Wednesday, and is expected to be sidelined a minimum of six months.
The 49ers aren't messing around with their No. 1 receiver. Many have pointed to Terrell Suggs and Da'Quan Bowers' 2012 mid-season returns from spring Achilles' injuries as hope for Crabtree's 2013, but they are pass rushers required to do far less cutting than Crabtree does as a receiver. In a best-case scenario, Crabtree will likely begin the year on PUP with an eye toward returning in the playoffs. It's almost certainly going to be a lost year for a player coming off a breakout campaign.

Sanchez tosses three picks in Wed's practice
Mark Sanchez | NYJ
(May 22, 2013 4:00 PM EDT)
Mark Sanchez went 6-of-11 with three interceptions in Jets OTAs Wednesday.
One pass was picked off by second-year UDFA DT Damon "Big Snacks" Harrison. Geno Smith wasn't much better, going 4-of-10 with a pick of his own. Coach Rex Ryan called Sanchez's display "unacceptable." The Jets' quarterback competition is going to get worse before it gets better, assuming it ever does.

Unsigned RFA Dickson taking part in OTAs
Ed Dickson | BAL
(May 22, 2013 3:49 PM EDT)
Ravens restricted free agent Ed Dickson has signed an offseason participation agreement to participate in OTAs.
It's a sign Dickson will soon ink his tender, or perhaps sign off on a multi-year deal. Assistant GM Eric DeCosta recently singled out Dickson as a player the Ravens expect to "take a step forward this season." Dickson has yet to be a consistent fantasy threat in his three-year career, and that won't change in 2013.

Jags waive DT Jeris Pendleton
Jeris Pendleton | FA
(May 22, 2013 3:44 PM EDT)
Jaguars waived DT Jeris Pendleton.
A 2012 seventh-rounder, Pendleton was one of former GM Gene Smith's small-school passion projects. Already a Weeden-esque 29 years old, Pendleton played just 33 snaps as a rookie. His NFL future isn't bright.
Jags snag former Patriot WR Jeremy Ebert
Jeremy Ebert | JAC
(May 22, 2013 3:39 PM EDT)
Jaguars agreed to terms with WR Jeremy Ebert, formerly of the Patriots.
The war will be won with former Patriots. Ebert is the third ex-Pat to arrive in Jacksonville in the past eight days. A 2012 seventh-round pick, Ebert spent his rookie year on the practice squad. Ebert is undersized at 5-foot-10, 194 pounds, but has sub-4.40 wheels. He'll attempt to make the Jags as a slot man/special teamer.

Jets not counting on Holmes for minicamp
Santonio Holmes | NYJ
(May 22, 2013 3:34 PM EDT)
The Jets don't expect Santonio Holmes (foot) to participate in June's mandatory minicamp.
It's not a surprise, as Holmes is still considered iffy for the beginning of training camp after going down last September. Holmes' injury was serious, but he doesn't seem to be rehabbing with a sense of urgency, instead taking classes at Ohio State. This is a marriage both sides appear keen to end. They almost certainly will in 2014.

Louis Delmas (knees) being held out of OTAs
Louis Delmas | DET
(May 22, 2013 3:21 PM EDT)
Lions FS Louis Delmas (knees) isn't taking part in OTAs.
"He's not here right now but there's nothing he can get out of this because he can't physically do the stuff we're doing," coach Jim Schwartz said. "The biggest thing with Lou is going to be his health and that's what he's working on." Delmas was limited to eight games in 2012 after an August knee procedure. It's unclear if he went under-the-knife again after the season. Thanks to his injury history, the majority of Delmas' 2013 salary is tied up in per-game roster bonuses.

Injury holding Mikel Leshoure out of OTAs
Mikel Leshoure | DET
(May 22, 2013 3:10 PM EDT)
Mikel Leshoure is being held out of team drills at Lions OTAs with an undisclosed injury.
"He's battling some stuff," coach Jim Schwartz said. "He can do some individual stuff but he's not ready to do any team work." There are no indications that the injury is serious, but it's worrisome news for a player who's had trouble staying healthy since being drafted. Leshoure can ill-afford more leg ailments after plodding through 2012. For now, Leshoure remains penciled in as the Lions' short-yardage "specialist" despite last season's anemic 3.71 yards per carry.
