Justin Masterson whiffs 11, records win No. 7
Justin Masterson | CLE
(May 19, 2013 4:02 PM EDT)
Justin Masterson struck out a season-high 11 batters while tossing seven scoreless frames in Sunday's 6-0 win over the Mariners.
Masterson permitted just three singles, walked a pair and hit a batter. The brilliant outing comes on the heels of a shutout of the Yankees, and he has now won seven games on the year. The big right-hander is looking much more like the 2011 version and in fact has been even better to this point. He'll bring a 2.83 ERA and 1.13 WHIP into Boston next weekend.
Felix Hernandez knocked around by Tribe
Felix Hernandez | SEA
(May 19, 2013 3:56 PM EDT)
Felix Hernandez wasn't sharp Sunday, allowing six runs -- five earned -- over just five innings in a loss to the Indians.
King Kelix recorded eight strikeouts, but he allowed eight hits and walked a pair. The Mariners' ace left his last outing with a back issue, so it's possible it was an issue for him again today. As long as he's healthy, Hernandez is obviously a good bet to bounce back against the Rangers his next time out.
Michael Brantley goes deep in win
Michael Brantley | CLE
(May 19, 2013 3:53 PM EDT)
Michael Brantley had an RBI single and a three-run homer in Sunday's win over the Mariners.
The longball came in the second inning off of Felix Hernandez. It's just the second homer of the season for Brantley, who was hitting third in the batting order. The outfielder has now driven in 19 while hitting .301 as he quietly puts together a nice season.
Ian Kinsler (ribs) could need stint on the DL
Ian Kinsler | TEX
(May 19, 2013 3:02 PM EDT)
The Rangers could place Ian Kinsler (ribs) on the disabled list.
He will have to show that his sore ribs will allow him to swing a bat soon, otherwise the club will put him on the DL and call up Jurickson Profar. Kinsler was originally hurt last Tuesday when he was hit with a ball while stealing a base and aggravated the ailment Thursday while getting out of the way of a pitch.

Sergio Santos transferred to 60-day DL
Sergio Santos | TOR
(May 19, 2013 2:36 PM EDT)
Blue Jays transferred RHP Sergio Santos from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
The move was made in order to clear room on the 40-man roster for Thad Weber. Santos will be out until after the All-Star break following surgery to remove bone chips and spurs from his right elbow.
Thad Weber claimed by Blue Jays
Thad Weber | TOR
(May 19, 2013 2:34 PM EDT)
Blue Jays claimed RHP Thad Weber off waivers from the Padres, optioned him to Triple-A Buffalo.
Alex Anthopoulos is at it again. Weber was designated for assignment by the Padres on Friday, but it didn't take him long to find a new home. He'll represent depth in the minors.
Carlos Ruiz leaves game with hamstring strain
Carlos Ruiz | PHI
(May 19, 2013 2:30 PM EDT)
Carlos Ruiz left Sunday's game against the Reds with a right hamstring strain.
Ruiz hurt himself while running the bases. There's no word yet on the severity of the injury, but a trip to the disabled list would seem to be a distinct possibility. Humberto Quintero would take Ruiz's spot on the roster if a move needs to be made.

Bill Hall released by Angels
Bill Hall | ANA
(May 19, 2013 2:26 PM EDT)
Angels released INF Bill Hall.
It's the second time they've released him in the last two months, as they cut Hall loose at the end of spring training before re-signing him a couple weeks later. The veteran utility player was batting just .164/.282/.233 over 21 games.
Carlos Ruiz exits with apparent leg injury
Carlos Ruiz | PHI
(May 19, 2013 2:18 PM EDT)
Carlos Ruiz left Sunday's game with an apparent leg injury.
Ruiz slowed up and appeared to grab at his groin as he went from second to third base in the second inning. The Phillies should provide an update on his status shortly. Erik Kratz took his place behind the plate.

Rangers could call up INF Jurickson Profar
Jurickson Profar | TEX
(May 19, 2013 2:12 PM EDT)
ESPN's Buster Olney reports that Jurickson Profar is in Arlington and might be recalled.
The club has him around as insurance in case a roster move needs to be made, likely involving Ian Kinsler (ribs). Profar got off to a slow start at Triple-A Round Rock this season, but he has come alive lately and is batting .278/.370/.438 with four homers and six steals overall. If Kinsler heads to the DL, Profar would play every day.
