Facing his old team for the first time, Hiroki Kuroda outdueled Hyun-Jin Ryu with 6 2/3 innings of two-run ball as the Yankees beat the Dodgers 6-4 in the first game of a doubleheader.
The Yankees were up 3-0 when Ryu left after six before Kuroda gave up both of his runs in the seventh. Fortunately, the Yankees were able to build on from there, and the two-run home run that Preston Claiborne gave up to Hanley Ramirez in the eighth didn't cost Kuroda the win. It was his first since May 17. The Yankees had scored a total of seven runs in his previous five starts.
