James Franklin expects to be ready for fall
James Franklin | MO
(April 5, 2012 10:20 AM EDT)
Though his shoulder injury was more severe than originally thought, quarterback James Franklin should be ready for the season opener.
There are no guarantees when dealing with shoulder surgery, especially a procedure that yielded the discovery of more disrepair than expected. However, Franklin could start throwing in 12 weeks and continue to get into top form through the summer. Meanwhile, backup Corbin Berkstresser continues to work with the first team.

Da'Rick Rogers back at practice, all is well
Da'Rick Rogers | TE
(April 2, 2012 3:42 PM EDT)
Amid speculation of his departure, receiver Da’Rick Rogers returned to practice.
The standout player missed a practice and all manner of speculation ensued, including Rogers being on his way out of Tennessee. There was a reported February incident with a strength coach that resulted in some thought that Rogers was suspended. That was not the case, either. Everything is fine, said coach Derek Dooley, who did not indicate why Rogers was absent. Whatever, there is relief in Knoxville. Given the season he had last year (67-1,040-9), a Tennessee team that is battling to re-gain much lost luster can ill afford to be without its star playmaker.

Christine Michael (ACL) returns for spring
Christine Michael | TXA
(April 2, 2012 12:07 PM EDT)
The most encouraging sign as the Aggies started spring practice was the presence of running back Christine Michael, who tore his left ACL late last season.
Michael tore his ACL last Nov. 5 at Oklahoma and missed the final four games. He was expected to remain out through the spring, but his progress is way ahead of what anybody had reason to expect. He will see the field this spring, but new coach Kevin Sumlin will limit his running back’s activity. Michael averaged 6.0 per carry while rushing for 899 yards and 8 touchdowns. He will be a senior in 2012.

Passing game in good shape with Mettenberger
Zach Mettenberger | LSU
(April 2, 2012 11:17 AM EDT)
Zach Mettenberger aired it out in the spring game and earned praise from teammates and coaches.
Coach Les Miles had indicated that he wants to open up the passing game in 2012, including going deep when the situation calls for it. Mettenberger, who will be a junior, completed three passes of at least 49 yards. Despite a couple of interceptions in 25 attempts, he turned in a performance that left players and coaches feeling good about the direction of the passing game.
