We noted yesterday that fights broke out at the Patriots’ practice. That concerns Bill Belichick not at all.
Belichick said afterward that he didn’t see why reporters were making an issue of the fights, which started with offensive tackle Nate Solder taking a cheap shot at linebacker Brandon Spikes and eventually involved much of the team in an offense vs. defense fracas.
“Football is competitive. We’re in a competitive camp,” Belichick said. “It’s part of football. I don’t think it’s a big deal.”
Belichick said that as long as the fights don’t spill over and involve him, he’s not too worried.
“I’ve seen a lot worse,” Belichick said. “I try to stay out of the way and not get hit. . . . I’ll be the last one to try to break that up. They’d probably all go after me.”
So as long as the players are going after each other and not their coach, Belichick is OK with a few fights breaking out.
