Stay classy, Spanish Fort High School.
It’s the dream of most high school students to have their school’s football team play in a nationally televised football game on ESPN. How did the rooting section of Spanish Fort High in Alabama celebrate this honor recently? By displaying a homophobic banner which mocked its opponent’s school colors.
Unfortunately, the kids from Spanish Fort High School (who would go on to beat their purple-clad opponents from Daphne High 20-14) couldn’t help but tarnish it by bringing this sign to the game.
It may be hard to tell from the photo, but it says, “Purple? Man, That’s Gay.”
The scores are in. Originality: 0.0 (out of 10). Presentation: 0.0. Penmanship: 8.5. Guy in crowd wearing sunglasses during a night game: 0.0. Your town being taken over by four different countries since 1712, including France and the Confederate States of America: 0.0.
Also, Spanish Fort High’s nickname is the Toros, which is associated with bullfighting, which is glorified animal torture. All in all, Spanish Fort fails at being a high school. Please try harder, Spanish Fort.
